A material merchant by profession and knowledgeable just till 9th standard, Arvind Janardan Khandke hails from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He's developed a Non Return Valve for internal combustion engine which apart from enhancing its fuel efficiency makes it eco friendly too. The wet air filter of his bike made him to believe that some air fuel mixture is returning back and thus causing incomplete combustion as a result of improper combination of air and fuel. The un-burned fuel causes emission of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the atmosphere causing a more severe form of pollution. Arvind made a decision to come up with a valve to prevent the wastage as a result of rally of the air-fuel mixture and created a check valve manufactured from nylon and Poly Propylene.
Characteristics and uses of the Non Return Valve
The non-return check valve may be used with both two stroke and four stroke engines.
This valve may be used for both petrol and diesel engines.
It raises the life of filtering part of the air filter by keeping it dry.
This check valve must be replaced after every 25000 Kilometers of drive and its own price is only Rs. 1000.

Assessment and support of the non-return check valve
Dr. D.Y. Patil College of Engineering analyzed this check valve in its laboratory on premier Padmini car engine and found that it significantly enhances the fuel efficiency.
The invention was recognised and supported by the National innovation foundation, India (NIF). NIF, a non profit autonomous body under ministry of science and technology, government of India has additionally given the invention in its 3rd national biennial contest for eco-friendly grassroots unaided technological innovations and traditional knowledge.
